Description

The main objective of the course is:

• to know the concentric structure of the Earth, its different envelopes, and to describe the main physical properties of these envelopes (density, seismic wave velocity, temperature),
• to have some knowledge of how this concentric structure has been discovered and the physical properties characterized. The teaching is based on many exercises that will use mathematical notions studied in L0 and L1.

• Describe the shape and structure of the earth
• Explain the thermal functioning of the earth
• Use mathematical and physical knowledge to characterise some of the properties of the Earth's interior.
• Use a scientific result in a reasoning and conclusion.
