Description

Remote Sensing is an introductory course that provides a comprehensive foundation in satellite-based observation and analysis of the Earth. The course covers the physical principles of electromagnetic radiation, sensor systems, and the interaction of energy with natural and built environments. Students learn to interpret multispectral, hyperspectral, and radar imagery for identifying surface features, monitoring changes, and supporting geospatial decision-making. Practical components include working with satellite missions such as Landsat, Sentinel, and ASTER, as well as radar-based systems for mapping and analysis. The course places strong emphasis on essential processing steps, including image georeferencing, preprocessing, enhancement, classification, NDVI calculation, and thematic map generation using modern GIS and remote sensing software. Students also explore applications of remote sensing in environmental monitoring, land use analysis, hazard assessment, and resource exploration. Through hands-on exercises and case studies, participants develop the skills needed to extract accurate and meaningful information from satellite data. By the end of the course, students gain a solid understanding of how remote sensing supports scientific research and real-world problem solving.
