Two third of the course are devoted to the global dynamics of the Earth, one third is devoted to the dynamics of geophysical fluids.
Contents:
- Elastic deformation at short time scale (normal modes, solid Earth tides, Love numbers, ocean and atmosphere loading, Chandler wobble)
- Visco-elastic deformation at long time scale (post-glacial rebound)
- Introduction to mantle convection
- Fluid mechanics on a rotating sphere
- Waves in the oceans (for example, Rossby & Kelvin waves)
- Introduction to ocean tides
