This course aims to understand the physical processes (mechanical and rheological) and the geometry of the structures leading to the deformation of the lithosphere. The different tectonic systems (rifts, rifted margins, ridges, subduction zones, orogens, post-orogenic systems) are analysed from geological and geophysical observations and results.
The following competences will be acquired :
- describe, analyse and interpret geological and geophysical data.
- knowledge of the conceptual models, which explain the rheological and physical processes leading to the deformation of the lithosphere.
- link observations and descriptions to the tectonic objects, to the understanding of the tectonic process.
- link observations and descriptions to the physical processes (mechanical and rheological).
- characterise the geometry of the structures at different scale.
