Centre de Données de Géothermie Profonde (CDGP)

The Deep Geothermal Data Center (CDGP) is a data center managed by the University of Strasbourg (LabEx G-EAU-THERMIE PROFONDE then ITI GeoT), dedicated to archiving collected at geothermal sites in Alsace and to disseminating this data to the scientific community for R&D purposes, while respecting intellectual property rights.

The Deep Geothermal Data Center (CDGP) manages the entire lifecycle of geothermal data for the region. As part of this effort, several activities are carried out: first, the collection of data from past activities or new operations, followed by data preparation, including format standardization and metadata enrichment. The CDGP also manages intellectual property by overseeing access rights, confidentiality levels, and dissemination terms defined with industrial and academic partners. Workflows are developed to ensure the traceability and harmonization of datasets. Finally, the CDGP ensures the controlled distribution of data by applying access mechanisms tailored to different authorization levels.

 

 

Project

LabEx G-EAU-THERMIE PROFONDE is a research program on deep geothermal energy created by the French Ministry of Research and Education as part of the “Laboratories of Excellence” initiative.

The Interdisciplinary Thematic Institute for Geosciences for the Transition of Energy Systems—ITI GeoT—is succeeding the LabEx for a new term running from 2021 to 2028. 

The CDGP is the French national node of the EPOS Thematic Central Service on Anthropogenic Hazards (TCS-AH). This European infrastructure provides open access to multidisciplinary datasets on induced seismicity. Through the EPISODES platform, CDGP data are shared with the European scientific community, enabling the use of advanced processing and visualization tools. 

This position ensures the CDGP’s central role in linking local geothermal projects (Soultz-sous-Forêts, Rittershoffen, Vendenheim) with European geoscience initiatives.

The CDGP is participating in the European Geo-INQUIRE project, a Horizon Europe initiative dedicated to improving access to data, products, and services that enable better observation and modeling of dynamic processes in the geosphere. The CDGP contributes to the activities of WG4, which aims to provide products and resources that support exploratory research on georesources.
