Objectif de l'UE
The objective of this discipline is for the students to learn the principles of sedimentology and stratigraphy, as well as to recognise basic types of sedimentary rocks (i.e. siliciclastic, carbonates, evaporitic).

Concepts of facies, facies association, and architectural elements are also introduced, which are basic requirements for the Sedimentology 2 course in the L3.

Contenu des enseignements
The course is organised around CMs with:
• Principles of stratigraphy
• Sediments (types, grain-sizes, source)
• Sedimentary structures
• Facies
• Facies associations

And TDs with:
• Recognition of sedimentary rocks and how to describe them
• Sedimentary rocks under the microscope

• Physical properties involved in erosion, transport and deposition of sediments
