Description du contenu de l'enseignement

In this course, students will acquire and mobilize their basic knowledge of sedimentology to identify the main sedimentary rocks macroscopically and in thin sections (reasoned diagnosis with appropriate tests). We will identify the processes of formation of these rocks (identification of the type of weathering, the transport agent, the environments conditions of deposit). We will link sedimentary facies to deposition environments.
We will reason on various types of sedimentological data (samples, thin sections, log, drill cores, field data) in order to understand the paleoenvironmental evolution of a region in a coherent order.
The course will be based on lectures, exercises, practical works and a short field trip.
