Description du contenu de l'enseignement

In this course, we will establish the conditions of fluids circulations in basins, both in marine and continental settings, both in sediments and the underlying basement, with appraisal of the consequences on diagenetic cementation, mobility of elements and mineralization.
We will focus on the petrographic record of fluid-rock interactions, the stable isotope tool to trace fluids and the fluid inclusion tool to reconstruct the composition of the fluids and their pressure-temperature conditions of circulation. The students will develop first order competences on the usefulness of these tools, and knowledge in the characterization of fluid-rock interactions in basins. World-famous basins (Athabasca Basin, Witwatersrand Bain, Paris Basin and of course Central Asia basins) will be used as key examples.
