Course description :

The introduction is a reminder of the main economic, geopolitical and environmental issues.

The first part covers climate and macroeconomics, including global energy flows, carbon footprint of the energy sector, medium-long term emissions targets, main drivers of the industry, opportunities and challenges.

The second part focuses on the power sector: presentation of the electric system and its economic features, regulatory landscape, main global players, climate and technology issues, consequences on firms and strategic options.

The third part is about the oil and gas industry. After a presentation of the main players and a reminder of climate issues, notably their impact on power generation and transport, it will analyze how the sector can survive the energy transition through issues such as carbon budgets, "stranded assets" and socially "responsible investment."
